The other day, an 8 year old girl stopped me while I was skiing. “Miss Patroller! Miss Patroller!” She yelled from across the run, waving her little mittens and flagging me down.
My stomach got butterflies, I assumed she was hurt or needed help. But she looked up at me with the biggest smile on her face and she said “I’ve never met a girl ski patrol before! Can I take a photo with you?”
I melted. Sometimes the novelty of this job gets lost in the day to day, and I forget what an honor it is to work in a career like this. I ski, I put up rope lines, and I sled injured people down. Just another day on the job. But moments like this, remind me why I picked this career in the first place. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to help and take care of people. It is so incredible to get to be able to do what I love everyday, all while doing my best to make other people’s day a little brighter.
People ask me all the time why I am a ski patrol. And the answer is honestly so simple, it’s for moments like that. (And the powder skiing isn’t half bad either.) ❄️☃️❄️
