Mystic Hot Springs

Nestled in a small town in the middle of nowhere sits a hidden gem that brings out the nomad in all of us. Mystic Hot Springs is the type of off the beaten path tourist destination that you can’t help but smile at.

When you first arrive at Mystic Hot Springs you are met by a kitschy little reception area, that is every flea market goers wet dream. You are flanked by every possible knick-knack and souvenir imaginable, and a pack of dogs and a sweet old man are there to greet you. After you agree to follow their rules, and assure them that you have brought enough hydration for the experience, you are granted access to the seven clawfoot bathtubs that make up the hot springs.

Now, if you are a tall human like I am, you will have the delightful and rare experience of being able to sit in a bath tub and have both your knees and your shoulders covered. This was the first small but significant joy that Mystic Hot Springs brought to me. Aside from this, the water was a nice temperature, and the tubs seemed relatively clean. However, once the novelty of the bath tubs wore off, Mystic seems like any other hot spring.

What separates Mystic from your generic Hot Spring experience, however, is their wonderful live music and the adorable sheep camps that you can rent to spend the night. This makes Mystic the perfect little overnight stay on the way to the National Parks that surround it.

Pro Tips

  • Be sure to bring a lot of water

  • Stop here on your way to many of the National Parks

  • If you're looking for a little more of an adventure, stop by the Red Hill Hot Springs
